Fall Nail Polish & a Bookish Nail

Confession: three years ago, I couldn't paint my own nails for shit. It never turned out like a salon manicure, but rather streaky as all hell. So I rarely painted my nails and opted for a salon visit weekly instead. But over the past year or so, I've put on my big girl pants and decided it was time to learn to color inside the lines. And so I have a few favorite fall polishes that I reach for on a consistent basis during the season. 2012 me is laughing her ass off right now.

No Place Like Chrome by Essie

I'm not sure if this metallic silver is a fall appropriate color or not, but I know I'll be wearing it a ton this fall for one reason. It makes me feel like an Ironteeth witch. For those of you who aren't completely attached by Sarah J. Maas' series (why not, btw?), her fantasy world includes this clan called the Ironteeth witches and specifically The Thirteen, a clan of fierce females with iron teeth and iron nails, both of which they use to tear their prey to shreds - men. It's almost too much girl power for me to handle. I wanted to channel my inner fierce witch so I ran out bought my own silver claws. Here's a quick tutorial on a (rather sloppy) Queen of Shadows nail design, because I just cant seem to let go of this series or this clan:

Steps: (1) Paint the accent nail red, leaving a small strip in the center; (2) Create the hilt in a small cross in black polish; (3) Draw in the sword with silver polish and use pointed q-tip with red paint to create the perfect shape; (4) Paint other nails with silver polish.

Undercover by Wet N' Wild

This little bargain gem is my baby all year 'round. I've mentioned it in previous posts and I think I always will. It's the perfect mauvy-pink that's fun but understated enough to wear all the time yet like not your grandma's nail polish. You know what I'm saying?

Imported Bubbly by Essie

I just got this shade last month and OMG I love it so much! It's probably suited best for the winter/holiday season but I just don't care, I've been wearing it for the past month. It's this stunning pearlescent pink and it puts me in a celebratory mood every time I look down at my nails.

Haze Of Love by Wet N' Wild

I feel like this is Undercover's big sister with a dark side and so although I wear it on my fingers, I frequently pair the two, wearing Haze of Love on my toes.

Disturbia by Wet N' Wild

For all my talk of witches up there, this color reminds me your traditional witch. It's a deep, deep purple that almost looks black in certain light. There's also a very little bit of sparkle in it to keep it from looking too flat. I think this might be my shade for the rest of FallOWeen season.

Lady Godiva by Essie

Lady Godiva is that perfect deep brown shade that's just rich enough to work with any skin tone but isn't quite black. In fact, from some angles it almost give off a black cherry vibe. It's really great on its own but I've done this shade with a cute leopard print accent nail before and just loved  it!

Yes, this list happens to be Essie and Wet N' Wild heavy, so if you have any other brands/shades, recommend them to me in the comments below!

Another week gone by. Have you posted about fall or halloween recently? Maybe a recipe like Alexandra's, or a glitter DIY like Pam's? If so, link up so I can read about all of your wonderful adventures!
